Hasluck - Get to Know Our Community

Hasluck is an electorate of around 258 square kilometres in Perth’s north-east stretching from Ashfield and Bassendean in the south, through Beechboro, Noranda and Lockridge, out to Ellenbrook and Brigadoon in the north, and across to Middle Swan, West Swan, Herne Hill, Midland and Guildford in the east.

The electorate’s residents span a genuinely wide range of backgrounds: long-established Australian families, First Nations communities with deep roots in Whadjuk Noongar country, and people who have arrived more recently from every corner of the world to build a life here. Walk the streets of Noranda or Beechboro, sit in a Bassendean café, or watch the kids at an Ellenbrook oval on a Saturday morning, and you’ll find that diversity on full display.

According to the ABS, Hasluck’s residents include tradies, healthcare workers, teachers, transport and logistics workers, small business owners, public servants, and retirees — households ranging from long-term owner-occupiers who have been in the same street for decades, to renters navigating one of the toughest rental markets Perth has experienced, to young families who stretched every dollar to get their first foothold in the property market.

The Swan River runs through the heart of the electorate, connecting communities from the riverside parks of Bassendean and Ashfield through to the Swan Valley’s vineyards, heritage orchards and historic townscape around Guildford. Fed by a network of tributaries, among them the Helena River, Ellen Brook and Bennett Brook, the river system reaches into almost every corner of Hasluck, a thread of natural beauty that ties the electorate together. The valley also means that winery owners, small farmers, and the hospitality workers who bring it all to life for visitors are very much part of the Hasluck community too.

To the north and east, the electorate takes in some of Perth’s fastest-growing communities — Aveley, Brabham, Bennett Springs, Caversham, Dayton, Ellenbrook and Whiteman — newer, younger suburbs, sitting alongside the established riverside character of Viveash and Woodbridge; an electorate that is genuinely diverse in character, from quiet cul-de-sacs to busy growth corridors.
