About us
We’re a growing community movement creating opportunities for people to be heard, not just during election campaigns, but all year round. We’re listening to what matters most to the people who live here and turning those voices into a shared vision for our community.
We represent the people, not the powerful.
Voices of Hasluck is a community-led, non-partisan group of local residents who believe the people of Hasluck deserve representation that listens first and acts on what it hears. We’re not a political party, and we don’t speak for any candidate or cause but our own community’s.
We’re part of the wider “Voices of” and community independents movement, comprising of neighbours and locals across the electorate who’ve decided that good representation starts with genuine conversation, not predetermined positions.
We believe democracy is strongest when everyday people are involved, informed and empowered, and we’re working for representation that is shaped by our community’s values, priorities and aspirations, and accountable to the people of Hasluck.
Our Story
Hasluck is a big, diverse electorate, freshly redrawn ahead of the 2023 election to take in communities along the Swan River. This includes places like Bassendean, Beechboro and Noranda, alongside the growing Midland-to-Ellenbrook corridor further north.
Like many Australians, a group of us kept having the same conversation: that the issues we care about most, such as cost of living, climate, healthcare, integrity in politics; which weren’t being reflected back to us by the people meant to represent us in Canberra.
Rather than just talk about it, we decided to do something. Voices of Hasluck began as a handful of locals around a table, and is growing into a genuine grassroots effort to listen to as many Hasluck residents as possible, and to turn what we hear into a shared, community-owned voice.
Our Values
Powered by People
We believe stronger communities are built through inclusion, participation and connection. We listen first and amplify the local voices. Everyone has a place in shaping what comes next.
Our Heart's In It
We respect each other and our environment and act with kindness. We stand for a better democracy and a better world.
Do What’s Right
We act with integrity, honesty and accountability in everything we do, especially when things get tough. We remain independent of vested interests.
Change Lives For The Better
We exist to make a difference in people’s lives and focus our energy on outcomes that matter, now and for future generations.
Our Mission
Connect with and empower the people of Hasluck, so together, we can shape a positive future for the community and our environment.
Our Vision
A thriving, active and connected Hasluck with an elected member who represents our community, and serves the people not the powerful.
What we do
We listen. Through Community Conversations, surveys and community events, we’re building an honest picture of what matters most to Hasluck residents – across every suburb, background and generation.
We connect. We bring residents together with each other, and help amplify community voices that often go unheard in the usual political conversation.
We stay independent. We aren’t aligned with any political party, and our role isn’t to dictate political positions, it’s to make sure Hasluck’s voice is heard clearly and honestly, however that voice chooses to express itself going forward.
What we won’t do
We won’t tell you what to think. We’re here to listen, to organise, to ensure the voices of the people in Hasluck are heard and represented.
Our Community
Hasluck sits on Whadjuk Noongar Boodja, with a story of place that stretches back tens of thousands of years before European settlement. We acknowledge the Whadjuk Noongar people as the Traditional Custodians of this land, and recognise their continuing connection to Country, waters and community.
Today’s Hasluck is a freshly drawn outer-metropolitan electorate, which includes established river communities through Bassendean, Eden Hill and Guildford sitting alongside fast-growing newer suburbs like Aveley, Brabham and Ellenbrook. The Swan River threads through almost all of it, and that mix of established and growing communities is exactly why we believe representation here has to be built from genuine, ongoing community connection, not assumed from the outside.
